The Visitor Centre in Swindon is now open five days a week

Newly refurbished under the management of Gary Kenyon and his team of volunteers, we now have a smart, modern bookshop with a stock of modestly priced books. Most are second-hand, and they cover a wide range of topics. There is also an increasing number of old vinyl records, old maps and some jigsaws too. All have been donated to the Trust for us to raise funds for the development of our canal.
As a visitor centre, we also stock leaflets to use for walking along different lengths of the canal, plus some magazines and leaflets about other parts of Britain’s canal network. A video is usually playing on our screen to introduce some particular section of the canal and its history.
You may want to become a Trust member, and you can also sign up here to become a volunteer for working on the canal, should you wish. Opening hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Saturday (excluding Wednesday), and visits at other times can be arranged. Telephone: 07759 990500; email: visitor.centre@wbct.org.uk.
The Visitor Centre is close to Swindon’s central library, at the top end of Regent Street, with limited parking outside the centre, but two large public car parks are nearby. Swindon’s buses drop their passengers at the library door too. Come and see us one day, if you can.
