Articles and illustrations taken from a variety of Local, Regional and National Newspapers and magazines from 1860 to the present day. These articles cover topics directly relating to the Wilts & Berks Canal and tell the story of the canal from it's busiest time, through decline & abandoment. The old newspaper articles include reports of Canal Company meetings and decisions made.
Articles in more recent years have reported preservation, and restoration.
There are also more general articles which have close links with the canal. and a large number of letters from the general public on their views for or against the restoration of the canal, especially the re-routing. There has been fierce debate on the merits of 'the old route' and the proposed new routes and especially on whether the canal should be routed through the centre of Swindon
