The latest section is being built by the Wichelstowe joint venture between Swindon Borough Council and Barratt Homes. It takes the canal further from Foxham Way and up to Mill Lane (see photo 1).
Swindon branch chair and head of communications Chloe Ford said, “This is a very great moment for Swindon and the Trust, as we see the next stretch of canal take shape. It represents progress towards linking the two Wichelstowe sections, which will vastly benefit the local community and bring with it the ecological benefits of a canal.
Chloe continued, “The Wichelstowe joint venture expects to make good progress in the next few years, with further canal construction, two new road bridges and a swing bridge. This is a big-scale project and is now in full motion”.
