One man went to mow.... Went to mow a- - - canal bed? WHAT?? Yes, and here's the proof. Graham Banks, Chair of West Vale Branch, showing just what can be done with their newly-acquired flail mower, thanks to generous donations by a local company, web solutions provider Montala Ltd. and with grants from the Vale of White Horse District Council New Homes Bonus Scheme, Shrivenham Fete Committee and the Shrivenham Village Institute Charity. Not only does it cut through the seeminly impenetrable swathe of vegetation that grows in dry canal beds, but it's also useful for trimming the edges of more civilised green areas, such as Canal Park Shrivenham as shown here.

 

Clearing the canal bed makes it much easier to do the survey work needed prior to full restoration, which is the plan.
