Canal Extension Plans

More good news for the canal on the planning front in Swindon! This will extend the length in East Wichel right up to Croft Road, given that a short stretch between here & East Wichel, including a lock, needs constructing. We will be raising funds and getting on with this straight away. With the advent of the canal crossing under the M4 and the planned extension of the canal in Wichelstowe that will join the two existing sections and continue right down to the M4, we will have continuous canal from Hay Lane opposite the garden centre into Swindon in a Y shape, terminating (for the time being) at Croft Road and the bottom of Kingshill. So in 2-3 years we should be more than half way towards our top priority of joining Swindon & Royal Wootton Bassett by water - and towpath / cycle path - given that the application is passed!
