On Saturday 24th August 2024, Peggy-Sue Ford, undertook her 3rd walking challenge, in aid of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust.

With what was aptly named "Summer Walk" the day was the most British Summer weather day we have had. 

It started off drizzly, until the starting pen opened for Peggy-Sue and other participants to get their safety briefing, and the heavens opened!

With a very wet start, the rain started to "slow down" around 2km in, when the route took them into one of two tunnels under the Thames.

Once out the other side, the rain had stopped, which gave everyone a small respite, whilst walking the outskirts of London City Airport. This gave eveyone a front seat to see one airplane take off and another one land!

Just after the 5km mark, the rain was back with force, until the about 12km.

About 14km, it was time to go under the Thames again, with the 2nd tunnel, coming out next to the Cutty Sark and our stop at 15km, at the University of Grenwich.

After the stop, it was time to walk the Thames Path, around the O2 Arean (formally the Millenium Dome). As we were walking around this, the rain came again, forcing those doing the "Dome Roof Climb" to stop and climb back down!!!

As we left the O2 behind, it was time to see the Thames Barrier and a large cruise ship coming through, being led by a tug boat.

As we left the Thames Path, it was time to head back to Grenwich Barracks, and to out finish line. 

Luckily the rain had stopped and finally the sun came out, as we walked past Charlton Park, with cheering and shouting as Charlton Athletics football match was underway.

The sun stayed out, as we walked up to the finish line, and collect our well earned medals.
