The Trust is extremely pleased to announce that a new contract has been signed with Swindon Borough Council for a stretch of canal at Mouldon Hill, Swindon.

The canal had lots of renovation work carried out 25 years ago, but then sadly declined. In recent years, the Trust has had no consent to continue maintenance.

This has now been rectified and working with the Council, a new maintenance contract has been agreed.

The Wilts & Berks Canal Trust have really stepped up a gear in Swindon on delivering a community space - a blue-green corridor for the community to use and enjoy, as well as embracing nature and wildlife.

Swindon branch chair Chloe Ford said, “It has taken some time to sort out the agreement and I’m extremely pleased we have reached this milestone. We can now start to improve the stretch of canal to a much higher standard for our community”.

Chloe continued, “We’ll be looking to recruit volunteers to help look after the space by joining our twice-weekly work parties. Over the next three years, we plan to improve the towpath and hedgerows and start to restore the canal. There’s a lot of work to be done, both behind the scenes and on the ground, but we look forward to achieving great things at Mouldon Hill".
